The Legend of Locguénolé....

A popular legend tells us that this property takes its name from the installation, formerly, on these lands, of Saint Guénolé. The great Saint Breton, living on the other bank, was once said to have been driven out by the devil and crossed the river in a single step to live on the other side, called "Locguenolé" (the place of Saint Guénolé).

A Family History....

Passed on successively by the women, Locguénolé thus became the property of the Marquis de La tour-Maubourg, then of the Count of Perrien and now of the de la Sablière family.

The current Château was rebuilt in 1810, in the heart of a magnificent wooded park, designed by one of the best French landscape architects of the time, the Versailles architect "André".

In 1968, the Château was transformed into a hotel by its owners in order to preserve the heritage of their ancestors. Locguénolé thus became one of the very first Relais & Châteaux in France in 1970.

The neighbouring manor house, located to the left of the Castle, is much older. It was built in the early 1700s. It was first of all the dependence of a 16th century fortified castle, located a few kilometres away and destroyed during the French Revolution. Today, it is a precious witness of a classical and typically Breton architecture. Its location and historical importance make it one of the few properties open to the public today, allowing a few privileged clients to enjoy total peace of mind, great comfort and the pleasures of discreet luxury.

The Domaine de Locguénolé benefits from a protected maritime environment of exceptional beauty. Today, it is a 4-star hotel that combines comfort and tradition and continues to write a beautiful story in this magnificent setting.
